Our Mission
Our mission at Gambela History Media is to preserve, protect, and promote the authentic history, identity, and cultural heritage of the Indigenous peoples of the Gambela region, especially the Anywaa, Majang, Opo, and Kumo. For generations, their narratives have been marginalized, misrepresented, or overshadowed by political forces and demographic changes. This platform was created to restore balance by giving voice to the stories that matter and ensuring accurate historical understanding for future generations.
We are committed to:
1. Documenting the Truth
We collect, translate, and publish reliable historical sources, academic studies, colonial archives, oral traditions, and community testimonies, to ensure that the history of Gambela is told accurately, respectfully, and free from distortion.
2. Amplifying Indigenous Voices
We elevate the perspectives of Gambela’s original inhabitants, highlighting their lived experiences, cultural values, and contributions. Our work aims to protect Indigenous identity amid rapid political and demographic change.
3. Promoting Education and Awareness
By creating accessible articles, essays, and digital resources, we support students, researchers, and community members who want to learn about Gambela’s heritage. Knowledge empowers communities to protect their rights and cultural identity.
4. Countering Misinformation
False narratives, political propaganda, and misunderstandings have long affected the people of Gambela. Our mission includes confronting these misconceptions with verified facts and historical clarity.
5. Building a Digital Archive for Future Generations
We aim to preserve historical documents, oral histories, maps, names, and cultural practices in a permanent digital space, ensuring the identity of Gambela’s Indigenous communities is never lost.
Gambela History Media exists to serve, protect, and uplift the truth because accurate history is the foundation of justice, identity, and community strength.
